Course Outlines

Introduction to Web Design

  • Brief introduction to the Web & Internet. Search engines, URL's, servers, browsers, HTTP, HTML, FTP etc.
  • Browsers & web design: Different browsers, the cache, images. Introduction to Java & JavaScript, plug-ins etc.
  • Creating a web site: Planning. Design considerations. HTML; the language of the web. Using an authoring tool. Free & commercial tools.
  • Images on the web. JPEG & GIF. Useful tools. Design considerations.
  • Putting your site online. FTP, submitting to Search Engines, etc. The course is intended for those with basic computer experience & includes practical hands-on project work. By the end of the course you will;
  • Understand the principles of the World Wide Web:
  • Know enough HTML code to build & update your own simple web site:
  • Understand the key principles of web design & site promotion:
  • Have a broad understanding of key advanced web technologies.

This course is intended to provide a solid grounding in HTML coding (the core language of every web page) and web design principles. It is suitable for anyone wishing to learn to design and /or update web pages.

Web design using dreamweaver:

  • Brief introduction to the Web & Internet. URL's, servers, browsers, HTTP, HTML, FTP etc.
  • Creating a web site: Planning. Design considerations.
  • Principles of using Dreamweaver to create your site: working with text, creating links, adding images.
  • Using tables for layout control.
  • Managing your web site with Dreamweaver.
  • More advanced web design: Using frames and CSS style sheets.
  • Putting your site on-line, submitting to Search Engines, etc.
The course is intended for those with some computer experience & includes practical hands-on project work. By the end of the course you will; understand the principles of the World Wide Web; have a practical understanding of how to build, update and publish a web site using Dreamweaver; understand the key principles of web design & site promotion.

Course Times: All courses are run subject to interest. Where course times are scheduled, we can be flexible and arrange times to suit you.

If you are interested in doing Web design using html, please let us know - if there are enough people interested, we will run the course. Course costs Our training courses are organised as part of our service to the GreenNet community and so GreenNet users are eligible for reduced rates.

GreenNet users: 235.00 pounds (VAT inc.)
Non-GreenNet users: 352.50 pounds (VAT inc.)
*Concessions at 20% discount: 282.00 pounds (VAT inc.)

*Unwaged, students, OAPs. There are no additional concessions off the GN user rate as this is already the lowest concessionary price.

In-house Training: We can provide specialised training in most internet related subjects at your home or office. Indeed many people prefer to be trained on computers that they use and are familiar with. Training is for a minimum of two hours. Costs are calculated on the basis of £41.13 per hour (inc. VAT).
Trainings can include Using Internet and Email and Using Pretty Good Privacy (PGP) in addition to the web design trainings above.
