International Year of Cooperatives

International Year of Coops home page

In celebration of the UN's decision to make 2012 the International Year of Co-operatives, the International Cooperatives Association commissioned GreenNet and Wave to build and design a special site for the year. In the spirit of cooperation the site draws together content for republishing from stories.coop and thenews.coop.

End Water Poverty

end_water_poverty.jpg

End Water Poverty's old site had served them well for a number of years, but began creaking at the seams as their content needs evolved and the site wasn't able to keep pace. The new site's aim was to bring the issues and campaigns of EWP to life - especially for their growing network of water and sanitation NGOs around the world.

We worked on a design that would be more engaging for incidental visitors and committed visitors, that could provide clear campaign information on a single page making it simple for users to see how they can get involved and support the movement.

Open Doors Clinic

Open Doors home page

The challenge of doing sexual health outreach work in East London has been transformed by police action in the run up to the Olympics. This was the unusual starting point for the Open Doors Sexual Health Clinic's request for a new website. The Open Doors team of nurses has for years, relied on its knowledge of East London brothels to provide critical sexual health advice, checkups and free condoms. Now that the police are closing them down in the run up to the 2012 olympics, the nurses needed to find an alternative route to continuing to provide healthcare to sexworkers.

Gyaan Yatra

Gyaan Yatra home

Gyaan Yatra is an initiative of the Asian Foundation for Philanthropy, designed to animate debate and understanding of development issues as a way of raising awareness. And as part of this work it also cultivates a group of development ambassadors, young people who are involved in AFP's development leadership scheme. Now translating all of that into requirements for the website meant coming up with a structure that could provide:

European Asylum Law Database

edalhome.png

This legal database project was made possible by a European Union grant to the Irish Refugee Council. The idea was to create a central searchable archive of immigration case law summaries from 11 EU member  states which would allow for useful comparisons of cases across the countries according to a set of priority issues and provisions.

Conciliation Resources

CR home page

CR has been growing its archive of peace building resources - articles, briefings and its own journal series, Accord, for nearly 20 years. And although their old website  was able to contain most of the content, managing it and finding it was becoming increasingly unwieldy. By the time CR came to GreenNet, they had already decided that they wanted to rebuild their website with a CMS. But the new structure and functionality of the site were not yet clear.

Electronic Immigration Network

EIN Home Page

Our last announcement of a new site for the EIN in 2002 marked the beginning of a completely new approach to web development at GreenNet. The research and development that went into the EIN's case-building 'bundlemaker' software, advanced searching tools, membership management systems and secure access had application for dozens of subsequent projects. Nearly 10 years later we've come full circle and used the learning from all those projects to completely rebuild the EIN.

Woodcraft Folk

Woodcraft Folk news page

This ambitious project was set up to integrate the Woodcraft Folk's in-office membership administration system with their public facing website. The idea was to build a very modern system to underpin a site that supports Woodcraft kids, parents and office staff, without losing the special creative spirit and energy of the Folk that has endured since its inception nearly 100 years ago.

deboraheade.net

Deborah Eade's Website

The brief from Deborah was a bit of a departure from the more usual list of organisational advocacy-led requirements that we get in the GN Web Projects dept.  Hers was a need for a modest site that could work as an effective stall for her to sell her freelance skills.  After years of working as a writer and editor for a range of sustainable development publications, she decided it was time to capture that history in a way that would help her potential clients get the measure of her work quickly and effectively.

Positive Energy

Positive Energy home page

The Positive Energy initiative came from some renewable fuel visionaries based in East Sussex. Their idea was simple and brilliant: To use the food and paper component of the 400,000 tonnes of waste produced by local homes, and convert it into energy we can use. They use anaerobic digestion (AD) and biogas combined heat and power (CHP).
