Meanwhile your supporters have the chance to contribute to the work that you’re doing, simply by connecting to the Internet.

In a nutshell..

  • Your supporters get connected
  • You get supported
  • They are more involved
  • Your movement is strengthened

What will it cost to join the green dot scheme?

Nothing. Nada. Zip.

Well you might want to spend some time sending a mail-out to your supporters to tell them about it. But GreenNet won’t charge you anything to join the scheme, and there are no targets or minimum requirements or penalties.

How does it work?

You place a button for the green dot broadband surf and support service on your website.

The button links to a customised page within the GreenNet website – complete with your logo, why it is you need support, other relevant information on projects, etc. and an application form to get connected.

On signing up to the service, the supporter will be billed for their [yourname.org] broadband service directly from GreenNet.

What’s in it for you?

The scheme offers more than just a way of getting regular funds from your supporters. You get to engage with your supporters by giving them an ethical alternative to their usual commercial service provider. GreenNet will also give you a free mailing list with a subscriber base made up of the users that have signed up, so you can stay in touch and keep your supporters up-to-date.

What’s in it for GreenNet?

GreenNet’s ethical business model is based on an idea that social justice is not only about the messages that we help our members to disseminate – it’s also in the approach we take to keeping the business afloat and providing our services. Our ethical working style extends to…

  • Our approach to managing the organisation – all profits go to our parent charity.
  • How we organise ourselves – everyone is paid and treated equally.
  • The way that we sell our services – we operate within the market without being governed by its values.

And if we can broaden our user base through more broadband subscriptions, we shore up the service that we can provide to all our members and increase what we can do for the civil society projects that we support.

What’s in it for your supporters?

  • An easy way to connect with you.
  • An ethical and good value connection to the internet.
  • An alternative to giving their internet subscription to a big corporation.
  • A friendly expert person to talk them through the options, get them connected and iron out any other technical hiccups.
  • A range of competitively priced, high speed connection packages.
  • A fixed IP address (usually £5/month with BT).

How much will your organisation receive in donations?

Each monthly payment by your donor subscribers will include an amount that covers the cost of the service to GreenNet, plus a contribution starting at 5% to your organisation which you will receive on a monthly basis, one month in arrears.
