An independent enquiry into the UK's asylum system today launched CITIZENS SPEAK, the biggest ever consultation with ordinary citizens on how asylum seekers should be treated.
The consultation has been launched by the Independent Asylum Commission and aims to "give ordinary people a say on sanctuary in the UK".
In the meantime, an anti-deportation campaigner today was found guilty and sentenced to a 12 month conditional discharge plus costs after he locked himself onto the banisters in the reception of XL headquarters. He appeared in Court in Horsham on Thursday January 10th following a peaceful protest at XL Airways offices in Crawley, near Gatwick Airport, last August. D. Thompson, who lives in Bradford, was charged with aggravated trespass.
