Search for Common Ground Intern – Morocco September 2009 – August 2010 Job Description Search for Common Ground's (SFCG) mission is to transform the way people deal with conflict - away from adversarial approaches and toward cooperative solutions. SFCG is founded in 1982 and endowed with headquarters in Washington, DC and Brussels respectively. We design and implement multifaceted programs that aim to promote dialogue, resolve conflict and prevent violence. We seek to help conflicting parties understand their differences and act on their commonalties. We have field offices in 19 countries around the world and count around 400 staff. Since 2001, Search for Common Ground in Morocco has worked with Moroccan society to transform the way in which individuals and institutions resolve conflicts and to help develop a culture of mediation in Morocco. In order to reduce the risks and costs of disputes, Search for Common Ground in Morocco works towards: 1. Enhancing the capacity of individuals and institutions to resolve conflicts cooperatively; 2. Developing a culture of dialogue by bringing together key actors, including civil society, government, and media professionals; The program has an office in Rabat, Morocco (9 staff, 1 intern, and 1 visiting scholar in Rabat, 1 staff in Casablanca; 1 staff in Tetouan, 1 staff in Fez). Support is provided from headquarters in Washington, DC and Brussels. The intern will assist Morocco Country Director with assorted programmatic tasks as needed. S/he will support the Morocco team with various projects conducted by SFCG in Morocco, ranging from youth and community building initiatives, media production and community outreach, to institutionalizing mediation mechanisms in Morocco. Duties for this unpaid internship position include but are not limited to: o Assisting in research on relevant themes related to SFCG Morocco programming. o Accompanying local staff in field meetings and activities. o Providing administrative support to program staff (reports, notes, etc). o Drafting webpage content for Search for Common Ground in Morocco. o Contributing to the production of donor reports and grant proposals; As job description cannot be exhaustive, the position-holder may be required to undertake other duties that are broadly in line with the above key duties. The ideal candidate will exhibit: • A self-starting, enthusiastic and flexible approach to the organization; • NGO and/or international experience (preferred); • Demonstrable interest in North Africa issues and/or conflict resolution; • Excellent writing, editing and communication skills; • Native English (required) and excellent French; • Knowledge of Arabic is a plus.
