I was so tired of being offered 'switching' as the only way to save money on my bills.

A friend pointed me to:

www.energyefficiency.powergen.co.uk

Where I did a free survey that told me that my house was rated a D. To bring it up to a B, I had to top of the insulation in the loft, fit draughtproofing and some low energy bulbs.

The site says that I will save up to £300 per year on my bills.

Ok, it isn't immediate cash in my pocket but it solved my problem without switching (I wasn't on Powergen and still am not - anyone can do it even non-Powergen people).

I am thrilled.

Re: Switching providers isn't the only option to save money and

For £20 you can buy a kw-hour meter. You'll be surprised at where your energy goes! Did you know that a typical PC, left plugged in but switched off, uses 200 units of electricity a year? That's around the same as a class A fridge, normally reckoned to be the heaviest user of leccy in a household, apart from the freezer. Even if you use leccy for cooking....
