GreenNet Support,

We are currently investigating joining Supanet fast internet service provision (ADSL/broadband). If we were to do this would we still be able to configure Outlook Express to download our e-mails from GreenNet? If so, how would we be able to go about this?

I look forward to a response to this request as soon as is possible.

Re: Changing ISP and GreenNet E-mail

Hi,

even if you connect through another provider you can still use your GreenNet account. Once you are connected to the Internet you can use our mail server as you used to do - send and receive E-mail through it. For your settings in Outlook Express this means that they should not need any changing unless the installation software of your new ISP overwrites the settings in Outlook Express.

Re: Changing ISP and GreenNet E-mail

Hi

I have been using an ntlworld connection for some time (for reasons of economy only - it uses an 0800 number!). This allows me to download mail from my GreenNet account but outgoing mail is not accepted. I send mail through ntlworld, using a GreenNet Reply to address.

Regards

Phil

Re: Changing ISP and GreenNet E-mail

Hi Phil,

in theory you should be able to send mail through our server smtp.greennet.org.uk . The only reason why you wouldn't be able to is because you didn't authenticate youself. You can authenticate yourself by collecting mail. That's why we recommend to collect email prior to sending email through our server. The problem with this is that some programs (e.g. Outlook Express) don't offer this option. You could though manually do this by clicking Tools|Receive All before Tools|Send and Receive.

BTW. Authentication is necessary because otherwise anyone (in particular any spammer) could send email through our mail server.

(Edit, 2005: password authentication is accepted too, contact support for details)

Hope this helps.

Re: Changing ISP and GreenNet E-mail

Yes - it does, doesn't it? All this time I've been using my ntlworld smtp because I didn't know that little trick.

Thank you!

Re: [SPAM] Changing ISP and GreenNet E-mail

I can suggest try it...
http://www.oemail [link removed by phorum administrator] recovery.com - Repair and recovery Outlook Express folders and emails. Undelete Outlook Express messages. Recovering and repairing Windows Address Book.
and

Re: [SPAM] Changing ISP and GreenNet E-mail

This spam's come to the wrong thread, but I'd suggest that the programs linked to are probably worthless at best. Corrupt OE mail folders are best dealt with by deleting the 'folders.dbx' file.

There's a good explanation of this on the MS support site:
