Concerning putting bank details of your group on the website so that people can make donations ...

We did this for a long time, but then found that mysterious direct debits were being taken from our account - mostly for mobile phone charges with various companies. It seems that someone /s had used our details illegaly to authorise payments from our account via some sort of online set up with the mobile phone companies.

Our bank helpfully refunded all the payments that had gone out and tightened up the authorisation requirements for direct debits, standing orders etc. And the police were notified of the fraud. But it did highlight the dangers of making ones bank details generally available - someone, somewhere might find a way of using them to extract money from you rather than giving it to you!
