How to send campaign email without inconveniencing anyone

Beware your email list being used by spammers with these list management guidelines.

I am receiving email fine, but I cannot send messages

Sometimes you’ll open your email client and your email will arrive in your inbox, but when it comes to sending a message you get an error message. Here are the few steps to follow for Outlook or Thunderbird to fix this.

Limit reception of email to GreenNet

If you are having your email forwarded from GreenNet to you via SMTP,  we recommend you restrict the range of servers your local office mail server accepts mail from.   This restriction may be implemented in a firewall or in your mail server, to prevent malicious email servers or spammers connecting directly to your system.

Mailing lists

Mailing lists are cheap and efficient way of distributing information on a large scale and to set up your own discussion forums. Moderated lists allow you to approve every posting that is made to your list before the message is distributed to all your subscribers.

Membership packages at a glance

GreenNet’s subscriptions are organised into packages of services. We have put them together according to the most common needs of our users. Each package has a number of optional extras, such as extra web space, mailboxes or broadband connection. Click on the package name to see more details. If you cannot find a membership package that suits your needs, e-mail GreenNet Support, use the contact form or ring 0845 055 4011 and we will customise a subscription package for you.

Minimising backscatter from your office server

A point for system administrators using GreenNet as an outgoing server, particularly those running Microsoft Exchange.

Moving emails from Outlook Express to Mac OS X

There are a number of ways to get your emails over from a PC to a Mac (e.g. doing “The IMAP Shuffle” or using a program like Outlook2Mac), but you can also do it using an open source utility called DbxConv. Here’s how:

Organisational membership

For larger organisations with more experience of using the Internet for professional advantage and for Individuals and organisations keen to customise their presence on the Internet.

Outgoing mail wrongly classed as spam or phishing by Microsoft software

Occasionally your correspondents may tell that messages you have sent have been detected as junk mail or “phishing” by the recipient’s email program, such as Outlook 2007 or Windows Mail. This is principally a problem with the receiving software, and here we describe a few things you can do to reduce the likelihood of your email being misclassified as suspicious.

Scam email Saturday 19 July

If you have received an email this morning claiming to be from “gn.apc.org System Team” (Admin), please just delete it and do not attempt to reply or forward it. We are aware of this “ phishing “ scam and are taking appropriate action with other ISPs/institutions. We generally mark such fraudulent emails as spam, but unfortunately this one slipped through. Needless to say, we never ask for passwords via email.
