I am receiving email fine, but I cannot send messages

Sometimes you’ll open your email client and your email will arrive in your inbox, but when it comes to sending a message you get an error message. Below are a few steps to follow for Outlook/Thunderbird on how to fix this problem.

Outgoing mail wrongly classed as spam or phishing by Microsoft software

Occasionally your correspondents may tell that messages you have sent have been detected as junk mail or “phishing” by the recipient’s email program, such as Outlook 2007 or Windows Mail. This is principally a problem with the receiving software, and here we describe a few things you can do to reduce the likelihood of your email being misclassified as suspicious.

Sending email via SMTPS

In order to provide additional security when you use email, we intend to enable a feature called “secure SMTP“ from Tuesday, 10 October 2006. Most people will not notice any difference. However, for people who use Eudora versions 4, 5 or 6 for Windows, it is likely that you will need to make one or two changes to your Eudora options, which are described below.
There may also be corresponding issues with one or two other e-mail or antivirus programs or mail servers.

Greylisting and email error 450

GreenNet uses an effective anti-spam method called greylisting. Occasionally it is alleged to cause delays and 450 bounces emailing someone at GreenNet. However, in most cases this should be resolved at the sending server.
