UN Day in Support of Victims of Torture Service of Solidarity

Date:
26 Jun 08
Venue:
St Paul’s Church in Covent Garden, London - from 4.00 to 5.30pm

The Zimbabwe Human Rights NGO Forum invites you join with them and a number of partner organisations in a Service of Solidarity with Zimbabwe’s torture survivors and victims. Afterwards people are invited to assemble at the steps of the nearby Zimbabwean Embassy in solidarity and commemoration.
Directions to the Church can be found at the following link: http://www.actorschurch.org/content/find/find.htm

The Church service usually mirrors similar events held in Zimbabwe to commemorate the day. This year however, the office in Harare has decided not to do so due to security concerns.

In South Africa, the day is being marked with a Vigil for Peace to be held in Durban today, 25.6.08. The Vigil for Peace will take place at St Paul’s Anglican Church in Durban at 1500hrs. The Vigil Service will be presided over by Bishop Rubin Phillip and will be marked by a procession of crosses for people who have died since March 29 in Zimbabwe, testimonies by survivors, words of encouragement by Church leaders, a call for meaningful interventions by the international community, and a public statement by Bishop Rubin.

This year there’s a kaleidoscopic program of Zimbabwean music, sport, food and culture, headlined by the Godfather of Zimbabwe Music…Oliver Mutukudzi.

It is important to remember that ALL Zimfest proceeds are ploughed back into projects that support the youth of Zimbabwe and victims of the current situation, via WEZIMBABWE, the charity that organises Zimfest.
