On Monday, the third iteration of the trial of Alfie Meadows and Zak King begins at Woolwich Crown Court. It is now over two years since the student demonstration in Parliament Square, in which Meadows was near-fatally injured by police brutality and subsequently needed 3 hours of brain surgery.
Both plead not guilty to charges of violent disorder stemming from 2010?s student protests in Westminster against the tripling of tuition fees. That evening Mr Meadows was rushed to hospital for emergency brain surgery after having been hit in the head with a TSG officer’s baton. Yet the IPCC-led investigation into Alfie’s injury was put on hold last year after police brought charges against Mr Meadows and Mr King instead.
