Scratch is an online software that allows a visual way of game programming for primary children. They create their own simple characters and backgrounds, and programme rules for the game. A fun and simple way for them to create playable games, mazes, matching, pac man, card games, whilst learning about sustainability. The software which is free, allows children to play the games on their own computers at home and share them with their friends. The workshop leader is Michael Newman, facilitator at Tower Hamlets City Learning Centre for three years.

Farewell to Justice? The progressive loss of Civil Liberties in the UK

Since 2001, the civil liberties of British citizens have been progressively eroded. Among other examples, the Extradition Act (2003) allows individuals to be extradited to another country for actions that are not criminal in the UK, and without prima facie evidence of a case against them being presented in a British court. This Act can result in long periods of detention without charge (British citizens have been detained for up to eight years).
