The general theme, and aim of the conference will be about building organisation. We will have discussions and presentations that draw lessons from our actions and our successes, and what is holding us back. We'll cover the following areas (more detailed agenda on the day): International reports and presentations: Speaker from our US sister organization (BAMN.com), Shanta Driver and a video link with organisers for asylum rights in Holland. Fighting for immigrant rights, dignity and respect: building sanctuary on every college campus, standing together: students with and without citizenship. Organising MFJ groups. The front line in fighting racism AND homophobia: lessons learnt from our fighting for asylum, for LGBT refugees (like our member, Edson Cosmas - on the brink of victory), and asylum seekers in general. Crisis across Europe: Perspective for building a movement for justice and equality, and putting the oppressed in power. Presentation on the environment: How fighting racism is pivotal to saving the world's environment. Since 2001, the civil liberties of British citizens have been progressively eroded. Among other examples, the Extradition Act (2003) allows individuals to be extradited to another country for actions that are not criminal in the UK, and without prima facie evidence of a case against them being presented in a British court. This Act can result in long periods of detention without charge (British citizens have been detained for up to eight years).
