Growing Home will hold its 7th Annual Benefit on June 11, 2009 at 5:30 PM in the Chicago Cultural Center’s Preston Bradley Hall. The event will include a keynote address by Chef Rick Bayless, an open wine bar with hors d’oeuvres, and a seated tasting menu. Music will be provided by The Skinny Williams Band. Chefs to present dishes at the event include: Charlie Trotter’s, Vie, Bistro Campagne, Nia Mediterranean Tapas, Monogramme Catering, The Balanced Kitchen, Tsadakeeyah Emmanuel, and The Meatloaf Bakery. (http://www.growinghomeinc.org/benefit09) The Benefit will honor Rashmi Ramaswamy and Mike Newman, the principals of SHED Studio (Sustainable, Humane and Experimental Design Studio), a Chicago architecture firm (http://shedchicago.com), for their support and help in building Growing Home’s Wood Street Farm and Training Center, at the Wood Street Urban Farm, Chicago’s first permanent urban farm with year-round growing capabilities. All proceeds from the event will support Growing Home’s mission to operate, promote, and demonstrate the use of organic agriculture as a vehicle for job training, employment and community development.
