This training day introduces teachers to a range of enquiry-based learning techniques including Philosophy for Children* (P4C), mysteries, using photographs, and Open Spaces for Dialogue and Enquiry (OSDE).
The day will include theory and rationale, but will focus on practical examples and hands on training, with plenty of materials to take away. The course will include activities ranging from connecting evidence from clues in a “mystery” to critical exploration of photographs as a stimulus to enhance visual literacy.
Philosophy for Children (P4C) is a process of critical thinking with students, which enhances self-esteem, speaking and listening and thinking skills. P4C has been developed over the last 30 years and is now practised in 60 countries.
Open Spaces for Dialogue and Enquiry (OSDE) is a dialogue-based educational tool to introduce global issues and perspectives in educational settings, such as teacher, adult, higher and secondary education. By following agreed principles, safe spaces are created where participants feel comfortable to express themselves and ask questions, whilst critically engaging with their own and others’ points of view. It can be a valuable training ground for learning to engage with different perspectives and to think independently.
Linda Ramirez Barker is a Freelance Global Educator and the Project Manager for the GLCC project. Linda has been involved in the Open Spaces for Dialogue and Enquiry community for the past 8 years and is a leading trainer for OSDE in the UK.
This event will be supported by the Global Learning for Community Cohesion (GLCC) project, a project of Global Education Derby funded by the Department for International Development. Free-to-download project resources will be shared on the day, for both teacher education and classroom activity.
Lunch and refreshments included.
